The Christian's in Chiang Mai

Missionaries are not super spiritual beings as some people may think. You will discover that by reading here. We are pretty authentic people who love and miss our kids and even after living in Asia for 40 years have a hard time with good-byes. Raising our four daughters in Thailand was fun but leaving them in the USA, halfway around the globe is not so fun! Yet, as we walk with God we see His blessings on us a hundred fold. Journey with these two Iowa farm kids as we share our photos and experiences of life in Thailand, “The Land of Smiles.” We embrace the Bible as our guide and desire to share God’s message with all people.

E-mail Update- Christian's Update from Iowa- 8/27/06

Dear Team,
We teach our college students in Thailand when they become new Christians that “living the Christian life is an exciting adventure”. It seems that God has been reminding us of that truth in our lifestyle and unexpected changes in the past several weeks.
Jon and Marisa just arrived back in our home in Chiang Mai working with their stint team of 9 Americans and our national Thai staff on the university campuses. We’ve been hearing great reports of how the ministry is growing. One highlight is a new activity called “Friday night Chapel” where the Christians from all the different campuses gather every Friday night for games and dinner and Praise and Worship at our new student center. Each week, different students share testimonies in front of the group of what God is teaching them. The staff feel that it is meeting needs in many areas, and each week new students are coming.
Thank- you for your prayers and expressions of love during Judy’s mom’s home going. God has once again been good and shown his faithfulness in meeting our emotional and family needs during this difficult time. We’ve realized that both Dad and Mom have been unsung heroes and models to many people because of the way they endured health hardships without complaining. Her memorial service was truly a time for us to bring honor to her and the life that she lived for Jesus. We only pray that we can follow in their footsteps.
Mike is gone on his “dream of a lifetime” –elk hunt in Colorado with 3 other close friends. During this time Judy is going to go on a “road trip” with her Dad to visit Lori and Jenny in the south at their colleges. Because of Dad’s care for mom, he has not been able to travel out of the state for over 10 years, so we’re hoping it will be a fun way for him to begin adjusting to life without his companion of 58 years- by getting out and seeing some new areas of the USA. We appreciate your prayers for us on our trip from Aug. 27- Sept. 4.
One more thing we’d like to ask you to pray for is concerning our home in Thailand being broken into since we’ve been here. It actually happened the day of mom’s death. It seems that they didn’t take a whole lot of monetary value things - but they took a safe with important documents that we’d like to recover because of the difficulty in replacing them. The thief’s have been caught (teenagers in our own neighborhood)- but we’re praying to get the documents back too.
Thanks you for standing with us through all of life’s adventures. We feel your support and love daily,
Mike and Judy Christian

E-mail Update- Mom's Homegoing- 8/13/06

Dear Friends and Family,
This is Judy writing with some shocking news that we received yesterday. My mother, Lola Rousselow went home to be with her Savior early yesterday morning. Although, she had a home- nurse check on her the day before and all vital signs were good, Mom has lived with the difficult symptoms of multiple sclerosis for more than 25 years. She has suffered a lot for many years and we are thankful that she died peacefully in her sleep. We also thank God for his perfect timing, in that we were not in Asia, but that she died while we have this extended time in the USA. We were in Atlanta when we received the news, after taking Jenny to Tennessee and Lori to South Carolina. With the girls located in four different states, we are in the process of trying to coordinate with them and other family members on getting them to Iowa for the funeral.
Dad has been mom’s full time care giver for many years and is going to miss her the most. We have called him Saint Leonard many times, and ask you to pray for him specifically as he adjusts to life with out his marriage companion of 58 years. What a glorious thought to think of mom walking for the first time in 20 years around heaven today, with a new body and mind. Both mom and dad have been incredible models to us of enduring hardship without complaining. We will miss her greatly.
We appreciate your prayers for all of us once again,
Mike and Judy Christian
