The Christian's in Chiang Mai

Missionaries are not super spiritual beings as some people may think. You will discover that by reading here. We are pretty authentic people who love and miss our kids and even after living in Asia for 40 years have a hard time with good-byes. Raising our four daughters in Thailand was fun but leaving them in the USA, halfway around the globe is not so fun! Yet, as we walk with God we see His blessings on us a hundred fold. Journey with these two Iowa farm kids as we share our photos and experiences of life in Thailand, “The Land of Smiles.” We embrace the Bible as our guide and desire to share God’s message with all people.

Burma

The situation in Burma is constantly before us.  If you live in the USA, to you it is probably just another one of those war torn countries. Since they are our close neighbor, the unbelievable atrocities taking place there burden us. Over sixty years of civil war have left Burma one of the poorest counties in the world. In an attempt to suppress the democratic opposition, the military dictatorship attacks it own people, killing thousands, and leaving millions displaced. Many in opposition are either imprisoned or killed.

When we visited Suppakit, I was once again amazed at the size of this Mae La refuge camp for displaced persons. It went on for miles with  these small huts side by side filled with Burmese people with no citizenship.

Burma has the longest running civil war and there are some groups working out of Thailand to help with the  injustice.  Free Burma Rangers is doing an incredible work there with over 50 humanitarian relief teams that bring help to people under attack.

This week Mike and I went to the movie "The Lady" which is the story of Aung San Suu Kyi  who was under house arrest for 15 years for leading the democracy movement.  We recommend this movie to give you a better picture of what is happening there. The website Pray for Burma is another good place to learn more about how you can pray for justice, reconciliation, and freedom in Burma. The Christians there are strong, but they need our prayers for hope and to know that we DO care about this injustice.
